Abstract: One of vital components in smart city is its safety. Video security surveillance continues playing the significant function in the smart city design although it is a quite legend topic dominating in this research/technology area for long time. However, millions pieces of digital information and highly efficient information retrieval mechanisms proposed in smart city provides us new opportunities to re-think and also leverage the existing video security surveillance. In this talk, we will focus on people surveillance from crowd to the individual which goes across large scale of spatial temporal domains. We will see the existing work and the new challenges. In the meantime, we will explore the possible approaches to tackle the challenges.
